Default Setting distributor height in block

I installed new heads, manifold, and set the distributor end play.
Now the distributor sits high and doesnt seat down on the manifold.
How do you set the amount of shims under the distributor in the block?
What is the clearance between the oil pump drive and the distributor gear?
Do you just measure the clearance to the manifold and raise it a few more thousandths?

Sounds more like the shaft is not aligned with the oil pump. It will seat when they engage properly. Changing the heads/intake should not affect it that much.

Set the motor to #1 TDC. You can look down to see the alignment of the oil pump shaft and adjust as necessary with a long screwdriver, ect. Its kind of a pain but works.

Lars..outlines a method of "stepping" the distributor around to align it. That works as well.

It will seat when they line up.

Its engaged in the oil pump drive.
Its got about .060 clearance from the distributor flange to the manifold.
If I torque down the distributor clamp the drive gear will forced down tight on the oil pump drive.
I ordered shim washers to space it up but cant find specs any where on how much clearance should be between the distributor shaft and oil pump shaft.
In other words how much shim to add to the .060 to get to the manifold, for clearance at the distibutor to oil pump engagement on a small block?

Ah, I see. What distributor are you using? I had a similar problem with an MSD Pro Billet and I Just had the colar milled off and used a slip colar. You want .060" of clearance between the distributor drive shaft and the oil pump shaft. If you .060" out of the hole I would use a .120" spacer.
