Left side yoke appears to be tight (no axial endplay) in diff housing. Right side yoke has much more axial endplay. What is the max limit? I have been chasing down a vibration at 50 mph and above that goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed. Where can I find info on the web that shows overhaul procedure?
Thanks for any input.
You will always have more play on one side yoke than the other. It's how they are set up when you shim it. You should have no more than an 1/16 -1/8" end play. As far as your vibration goes, have you checked your tranny mount?
I'm going to take a shot here and ask if you're the fellow I met today in Durham? Parked next to you in a 75 white L-82 coupe? If so, it was nice to meet you and you have a very nice BB coupe there.
I have a rebuilt differential in my shop now if you want to see how they are setup. There is no spec on the yoke endplay that I know of but anything over .050" I would consider replacing them. New and rebuilt yokes have the snap ring groove .187" from the end to groove so you can get a decent idea of wear when measuring. You need to remove the differential to replace the yokes.

Tranny mount brand new. Suspect I have .060 play. Will check with a dial indicator. I would like to see a build up diagram of the rear diff. Any suggestions where I can see one on line?
