Ok from seeing what you all put on my poll i couldnt decide, so the vettes getting a 383 stroker form enginekits.com, supercharger to top it off, and a nitrous kit to scare the &%() out of me. What do you guys think a shop will charge to install the 383 stroker kit(from enginekits.com the basic kit with crang pistons etc...., and is their anything else ill need for it on my 81 L-81,)
Thanks Alot lets haul some arss
I do my own. I can tell you in general a shop won't do much if anything like that since it's over their head. You can be pretty sure anyone who needs a shop to do it all is over their head. Just try to get the 383 in & learn, then you can think about what's next.
The amount of NOS that You spray, is how stout the rotating assembly must be.
I have not yet started on my 383 Stroker, but if I am going with 200+ spray of NOS.
The rotating assembly must be all forged:
· Crank: 5140 Forged Steel 3.750 Stroke / 4340 Nitrided Forged Steel 3.750 Stroke
· Pistons: Probe Forged Flat Tops 11.1:1 CR / SRP 4032 Alloy Flat Tops 11.1:1 CR w/64cc
· Rods: 6.0 4340 Forged Steel H-Beam w/ARP 7/16 bolts
· Bearings/Rods & Mains: Clevite 77 'H' bearing
I am looking for a Bulletproof rotating assembly, nothing else will do..

You'd be better off to find the shop first if you are unable to do the work yourself. There is a good chance you buy mis-matched, incompatible, or otherwise unusable components. Find the shop, tell them what you want to do, and listen to their advice. I don't mean necessarily doing everything they say, but (for instance) if you buy a kit with 6" rods, and then pistons for 5.7" rods you are screwed. There are other issues (internal or externally balanced, etc) that must be addressed.
Find a shop you trust and start from there.

If you have a matching #'s car I would think about just buying a fully assembled short or long block, sounds like you are going to be pushing some serious power and if things go a foul the block could get destroyed.
