Hurst Question

Default Hurst Question

Seriously thinking about the Hurst Comp Plus. My rods are misadjusted and I keep getting stuck in reverse. The shift into 3rd is not smooth.

1) Can I install this along with the new rods in my garage?
2) Would I have to pull the exhaust? I'm sure it would be easier, but I'd rather not pull it.
3) How much can be done from above? Does the entire console have to be removed?

You will probably need to do most of the work under the car. Installing the shifter requires you remove the old shifter plus its mounting plate to the frame. The Hurst bolts directly to the transmission so expect to pull the exhaust inorder to install it. You will also have to adjust the rods for the hurst shifter when you install it. When I installed mine I had removed the transmission for a rebuild and it was alot easier since I set up the shifter one a workbench and then just unbolted the shifter put the trans back in and bolted the shifter back on. It only took a few minor adjustments that way.

1. Yes.
2. Have true duals on mine and did not have to pull the exhaust. You do have to remove the pipe hanger that holds the pipes before they go through the crossmember.
3. Not a lot. Only the console plate has to be removed. 4 screws and the 2 vent *****. I did remove the rubber lever boot also.

Check on the Hurst web site for installation instructions. Make very sure that you properly install the wire clips that hold the rods to the shifter and transmission levers.

Just finished mine.

1) Yes. Space is tight. For me, I had to unbolt the tranny from the crossmember, and jack it up a bit for the god-awful shifter mounting plate that came from the factory. Could that be more wrapped around the crossmember? #@$(*&@#$
