Hi all,
Can the a/c unit be put back on the car after I drop the body down? I want to have the a/c boxed looked at before I put it back on the firewall but I am not sure if I get fit it once the motor is there??? Also, I know nothing about the a/c workings... I was wondering if I can have this sent out and be looked over? Does this make sense or am I worring about nothing???
The outer box is really nothing more than an empty box with the A/C evaporator and fan in it. You can pressure test the evaporator to make sure that it is not leaking but other than that there is not much to go wrong. Just make sure that the inside of the box is clean and does not have any accumulated junk in it like leaves, etc. If you already have it off, I would suggest that you get a reseal kit from one of the vendors like Zip or Doc Rebuild to make sure that all of the air from the fan goes into the car.
Is there something specific that you have a concern about? Cracks, dead animals, rust, bent lines, etc?

I could not take mine out without taking it in two pieces....then I found about a bushel of leaves inside.
Like everything else on the car... I find it needs attention. I have not split it up into two pieces yet. I guess I don't know what to look for to see if something is broken! It looks similar to the heater core from looking into the box itself. The air never worked before so I went ahead a purchased all new A/C wiring just to be sure. The old wiring was all corroded and green inside... How about the lines? How do I inspect the lines and clean them out? There was oil in them when I removed the system. Also, how about the compressor? How do I make sure this still good? It turn and I can here the compressing "popping" when I spin it... THANKS FOR ANY HELP on this one...
There SHOULD be oil in the lines. It circulates with the freon and acts as a lubricant for the compressor. The oil can, and does, pool in certain areas. It's normal.
The only way I know to test a compressor is to run it and check the pressure it's pushing.
