i have a friend who just purchased a 67 with a 427. it is not the original engine. I am trying to find out what engine originally came with this vette. how do i find out? does the vin # tell me anything or not? the tach red lines at 7000 rpm. could it have been a 396 ? gracious, bdub.

No 396; either 327 or 427 CI.

I'm pretty sure there was no factory tach that redlined at 7000 rpm. I beleive 6500 was the top redline.

Believe the redline is where the orange and red meet on the tach.

Should be a nice car. I have a picture of me in 67 next to my uncles 66 427 425 horse car. I remember riding in that car and have been hooked ever since. I can still smell the rubber burning. I'd love to have that one back.
