I have a 1969 427 that is very original. The distributor is giving me problems so I have decided to replace it with a performance one. I need advice on the best distributor to get

I have a 68-427-4speed I used an MSD TACH DRIVE distributer that works with a MSD6AL. I;ve used this set up for several years and it's a great performer, quick startingand great idle and performance.

If you want to retain vacuum advance (recommended) and tach drive, another stock unit or an MSD are about the only options. The least expensive option would probably to rebuild the one you have (and desirable if it's original). If you go that route and prefer not to do it yourself, there are some services out there than can make it look and perform like new. The MSD unit does require their 6A box so you're looking at about $500 to go that route. There are a few other tach drive dists out there but they aren't available with vacuum advance. I'm running the MSD set up and I've been very pleased with it.

What exactly is the problem. The dist is a pretty simple device and can be fixed pretty easily. I am running the stock dist with a Crane HI6 box and it works perfect to 7000 rpm.

I too have the MSD pro-billet, tach drive, vac adv. distributor. It's switching a MSD Digital 6 box.
