Default Pictures Appreciated...

People of the forum...lend me your eyes...

I am interested in adding an H or X pipe to my current true dual exhaust on my '80. Does anyone have pictures of their exhausts with H or X pipes? I need to show them to my exhaust guy so he can install for me. Any help would be great.

Also, I am running stock manifolds and will be chaging over to headers when the H/X is installed. Do Corvette headers "dump" in the middle like the stock manifolds?

Thanks,
Chris

Don't have any pics of my x-pipe but I can try and explain the best I can. No, headers dump at a different spot than the exhaust manifolds. You might wait until you get the headers before you do the work.

About the only place to fit the x-pipe is right behind the tranny cross-member. Have them weld in some flanges just before the x so that you can remove the system for drive-shaft work, etc.

you also have to modify your your pipes going to your current exhaust manifold they will be too long with the headers.

Thank you for the help. I figured behind the crossmember would be the only spot. The flanges were an oversight on my part when they did the exhaust the first time. I also realize that they will have to cut the pipes at the manifold to make room for the headers. I'm actually not happy that they used 2" pipes at the manifold and then adapted to 2 1/2" stright back. I guess it was easier to interface with the stock manifolds?

Do you notice a difference with the X? I was told it'll smooth out the exhaust as well as cut down on 1500 RPM drone. Any thoughts?

Thanks again,

Chris

Default slightly off this topic

What about someone who is keeping the case iron manifolds but is going with the dual setup for a ’73? Is there still an advantage to installing the H pipe with that configuration?

I would think yes - you're effectively just adding a balance pipe to a twin system...
