Overfilling Differential on 79?

Overfilling Differential on 79?
my car was on an ever-so-slight slope in such a way to allow more fluid into the differential when filling. would this possibly blow the gasket or make it drip at all? cuz when i drove it last and let it sit i found a small leak on the concrete and wondered if i royally screwed myself. comments on this?

How much did you put in? Do you know where the leak is coming from? Pinion seal or gasket? It could be from when you drained it and filled it back up. Some of the fluid could have dripped on your spring or something and after it sat there it just dripped down.
If your '79 is as old as mine 
then it's probably a seal leak.

There is a vent on the top of the rear cover. If you overfill it, it will puke some out of the vent. It's pretty easy to see where the leak is if you crawl under the rear. It's on the driver side on the top of the spring ear just in front of the crossmember mount. If you see no evidence there then it could be the pinion or axle seals. It would not cause the gasket to blow out since that is why the vent is there.

cool, then i think im just leaking a little from either seal on the half shaft ends, those are getting replaced soon anyhow...BTW how hard is it to replace the seals on either half shaft for a 79?
