i was doing a search to see if anyone has done a supercharger on a 81 or similar vette, but because the new search set up is not like the old i found nothing on the subject. so has anyone set up a supercharger on a 81 vette or similar vette. and if so, is there any supercharger on an existing car i can use for the vette, maybe one i can pull off of a car in a junkyard? I plan on taking the AIR pump off and using that space for the supercharger. any input would be great help. thanks
No car that I know of comes with a centrifugal supercharger. That is what I believe you are talking about as you said it'd be replacing a current accessory. It is possible to do a junkyard turbo setup, but it's difficult if you don't know what you're doing. You'll probably want to look into getting a new supercharger and probably EFI to help things out if you want to go the blower route.
For a P1SC or D1SC the inlet port is about 5.75 inches back from the mounting surface on the front of the blower housing. This tends to put the inlet port right in the end of the master clinder if you have power brakes. The v-belt setup is about 2vgrooves + 2" for a 12rib, so if you go for a 12rib there may be some interferance with the crossmember. Not that this can't be over come, though... Perhaps manual brakes and cutting up the crossmember. ATI told me they've sold 10+ carb kits for the C3 vettes but they didn't know for sure if anyone ever got them working. As for the rest of the housing -- it looks like it "should" fit there on the driver's side. Go hunting around ATI's web page and they have a brochure that covers some of the dimensions of the blower setups. Also ATI has a reclocation kit for the blower. It allows about 0.5" of flexibility to move the blower forward and up... or something like that.
