I just got a 383 short block, (ran out of time to do it myself), and i think i will be running around an 11:1 ratio, im not 100% sure, so tell me if im wrong, heres my setup.
Im just making sure that i should be able to drive this on 91 octane, with the altitude, correct? If not i think i will have to maybe double the head gasket to get the compression down..i live in denver for school, so a mile high.
Another question, can i put nitrous on this engine with such a high compression ratio, or will i just blow up my engine?
Hmm...good question. I would think at high altitude you could get away with higher compression, lower octane, and greater timing without detonation due to the thin air. I think in the case with high compression, altitude works in your favor. You may actually have to lean out your mixture a bit, raise your RPM by using lower gears because the fuel burning generally sucks at high altitude at low RPM's.
Don't worry about nitrous with high compression, but take the usual precautions - i.e. reduce your timing a few degrees.
make sure you measure the deck to piston.... you need to know your
compressed head gasket measurement also... You need to know exactly what your compression ratio is ..
