Default convertible question?

My seats in the full back position are hitting the convertible deck , is that normal? I've mounted a fire exting on the pass side so moving the seats forward won't be an option.

Possible, not normal. If my seat is all the way back it hits . The parts houses sell a set of little rubber bumpers to put back there. I guess that the stops could be adjusted to help some.

Mine doos not hit but they are close. I never have my drivers all the way back as I'm only 5'7" and need it up a little. My passenger seat is always back and it does not hit. You might have a cracked seat frame.

Mine rest against the deck lid when all the way back, there is a rubber bumber on the deck lid that matches up with the button/bezel on the back of the seat.

I am 6' 1" tall. The seat in my 69 is always all the way back and it hits the deck lid.

Mine is close. No bumpers. 1968.

So, you guys that are touching, do you have to flip your seat forward to "safely" lift the deck?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I think the first year GM started installing those bumpers was 73.

It goes up with them back but you have to put them forward to close it, I leave my passenger seat forward a click/notch so it does not rest on the lid so I only need to pull the driver's seatback forward just a touch to get the lid closed plus it keeps the seat from squeeking which drove me for a little while.

Mine used to touch the deck lid. Since I recoverd the seats, they do not touch anymore. If you do not want them to touch the deck lid, you can adjust the seat back bumpers on the seat in the hinge area.

Default Seat in 71

In 71 there is no rubber bumper on the deck and the seat will hit when all the back. Even if you adjust it forward with your weight the seat frame gives causing the back to hit. Ist you need to buy or make a steel support for the bottom of the seat. this will aid in supporting the adjusters for the back seat and it can't flex as much. Second I would recommend if your not worrying about exact stock look add the rubber bumper on the deck.

the driver's side hits, the pass side is close. I did play with the screw in rubber stop at the hinge area and it helped. Joe

I agree. There are adjusters on the rear seat bottoms that screw in or out to adjust the seat back position. Also, mine hit as well.... my lower seat frames were rusted and cracked.

Me too. I am using 80 seats in mine. It's a 69 so no bumpers.

I had recovered my seats last winter (just got the interior in this summer) , i didn't put the bumpers back on the lowers seat frame. I'm my own worst enemy.
