Default Corvette Central C3 Z06 wheels

OK friends,

As many of you know I have been wanting to put the Z06 Wheels on my car but I am not willing to put alot at risk with adapters, and spacers. So one of you recommend Corvette Central and they had them!

Like wise I ordered them, then two weeks after I ordered them they call me up and say o by the way you need to grind down the e break brackets! So I did.

Come today is the day to put everything together! About a five days ago I ordered 255/50/17 Nitto Extreams. I was very pleased with the tires!I mean wow! They cost me $764.20.

This morning I get to the tire place the put my car on the lift and go to put a rubber block in between the frame and lift. The kid goes to lift up on the drivers rear wheel well! With his back to the car and both hands behind him grasping to the wheel well. Low and behold when he grabs and pulls his left hand puts a three inch split in the glass and his right hand just spiders the clear coat like crazy! I mean spiders 10-14 inchs long!!! They are everywhere!

So they say well opps! And we will pay for it, I said your damn right you will! Then we go to put on the wheels only to find out they A: Don't have them put on, B: They don't have them balanced (they've been there for two weeks and the tires came in three days before I went to go get them!)

We get that all settled and they go to put the wheel on when the lug nuts they sent me do not fit! They are too wide, and only screw on to three threads. So they charge me for new lug nuts, and those go on at five turns, which is their min for allowing the car out.

Then we go to put on the wheels to find out no matter how fare you grind down the bracket on the trailing arms you HAVE to relocate the e break bracket!

Once I come back with the brackets relocated, they put them on the front only to find out they grind on the tie rods in the front!

By this time I've had to go to hell and back.

Then they tell me well we have to charge you a $160.00 restocking fee. Because these tires were a special order!

So I thought I might want to share this information with fellow lookers for these wheels. My opinion.... well you decide for your self.

What the heck was he trying to do? Pick up the car all by himself???

I have been considering these same wheels myself, but wondered about the 8.5 width. I figured I would have to move/remove the e-brake bracket, doesn't work anyway. But reading your experiences makes me want to hold off on the purchase.

Was the interference on the front with the tires hitting or the actual wheels...?

Default From Bad to Worse

I just cant imagine all the problems that you went through. Only to end up in a worse place than you started. Broken fenders, removed e brake, ground down tie rods, restocking fee, and probably tons of lost time, grief and frustration. And here is the shop that damaged your car, and now is going to charge you a restocking fee? For some things like that they should give the customer a courtesy comp.

I am leaving my 73 stock. But for my 86 I did put on some 2001 rims. For that I needed to put 1inch billet wheel adapters on. I changed out the rotors and pads, at the same time. They fit good, no rubbing, and no extra vibration.

I would have gone through the roof if I saw anyone doing that to my car.
As for the rims what are there back spacing if you don't need spacers?? What are the specs on the rims. They sound interesting. I have offset trailing arms and no bracket on the front side.

I had considered ZR1 chromies a few years ago, but it just didn't seem right that it could be so easy, even with wheel-adapters/spacers.

Besides, I had just gotten brand-new 15" BFGs the summer before, so it'd cost me another couple hundred $$$ to get new tires, too!

Instead, I simply had my OEM aluminum wheels chromed, knowing that I'd have no problems like you've experienced.

Best bucks to-date I've spent on my car.....

Hope your situation gets rectified to your liking.....

I am running Nitto 255/50/17's on my front wheels (17x8.5" with 2 1/2" Vette Brakes adapters) and 275/50/17's on my rears (17x9.5' with 2 3/4" Vette Brakes adapters).

They all fit fine. I have not moved or even ground on my e-brake cable at all. I have road course raced this combo, throwing the car into some really hard corners with no rub on the front end, even though it is lowered to 26" inside the front fender.

Man that really is a bummer.

Has anyone here actually fitted these wheels yet? I want them so bad... But I think they will be out of the budget for a while. Who actually makes the wheels? Is it Mid-America or someone else?

I have a hook-up at a tire shop, and they claim they can order wheels from any manufacturer- but I need to know who makes them. Somehow I think they are a MA exclusive...

WGC;

Why are you having inexperienced children putting wheels on your car?

You're supposed to have a Z06 wheel installation party at your house.
You post on the forum, "DFW C3-Z06 wheel installation party" with
all the pertinant details.

You line up a few people and then setup beers and pizza for when they
arrive.

The guys arrive (and bring tools if you don't have them) and modify/install
the wheels on your car...

You get to talk, watch, work, etc. and when it's all done, you get a finished
car...

NO body cracks, no it needs some more grinding and we don't do that here,
etc...

What do these wheels look like?

Where in Dallas are you?
