I have just finished dying the dash panel and e-brake cover and the finish is glossier than the original pieces. I bought the dye from Paragon rather than a local auto paint store to avoid any problems. Anyone have experience changing interior color? Is there any way to salvage what I have?
The stuff in the spray cans tends to be glossy. If I were you, I would go to an automotive paint supplier that sells SEM paint. Buy SEM #13013 Satin Gloss Clear. Spray a light coat over the color. This will dull the gloss of the color without having to start over.
Thanks for the advice. I bought the SEM plastic and vinyl prep from a local supplier and had considered purchasing the paint also but was concerned because they only listed paint by color not by car and year. I figured I would stick with the stuff from Paragon because it would be correct.
In Paragons defense...
I formulate new interior dyes every day now. Getting the exact sheen is very difficult as it varies quite a bit by application technique. A light mist will produce less gloss but too light results in dry spray. I've formulated with both SEM and Valspar with similar results in sheen variation. I've dropped the SEM line now as the two are exactly the same thing anyway.
