Default 02 Firebird belts

I asked last week about the rear belts out of a Camaro or Firebird. I found the '93-'00? belts were gray not black and can be found for $20-$40. Then I found a set of rear belts from a '02 Bird in black. Here is a picture of the belts. For those that have used these did you mount the retractor under the seat or behind it? The originals had 2 retractors. The shoulder bolts are metric not the 1/2-13 bolts the originals had.
Thanks,
Gary

I mounted mine on the wheel well behind the seat. Also, I went to Lowes and got hardened grade 8 bolting material to mount the seat belts. I did cut the guide off of the seat belts.(triangle shaped thing)

The retractor goes behind the seat on the rear wheel hump. The cover over the retractor can be removed if you want. On my 71 the center strap (the short one) fit perfectly in the stock plastic sleeve. There is a locating tab on the bottom of the retractor you need to bend flat. Although the retractor mounting hole is metric, my stock bolts worked fine.

Also be sure that the bolts for the retractor on the passengers side do not come into contact with the fuel lines. The bolt hole goes through the floor and the bolt will make direct contact with the fuel lines.

Gary, those would be the gray ones. I didn't even know that I could have had them in black like you got. Had I known, I would have held out for a set of blacks. The black would look awesome. The gray still looks pretty good in there.

Well, Billy Graham camaro parts in AL has a '02 Camaro coming in that should have good rear belts. They were $75+ UPS. A little bit more then I found the gray ones for, but they are Black.

I found Tan ones on Ebay for my car. I took the buckles off to remove the triangle piece and string them through the seats. Check out here for a picture.seatbelts

The original plastic GM receiver covers will work with your new receivers too. Just heat em up a bit with a heat gun, and slip the new receivers into them. The plastic latch even fits in part way. This way...the new receivers will not lay limp. Worked for me!!!

Default An alternative

At the Corvetteforum corral this past weekend (Monterey Historics featuring Ferrari) I ran into a fellow named Louie that had a set of VW Vanagon belts in his '67 'vert. This was a NCRS correct car (that he put the belt setup in when it was not being judged?) and they were long enough to mount well back at the hatch mount with a simple bolt setup. It looked very slick and secure. He had the female end modified by some seatbelt place. I know the Camaro belts work well, but this also was nice.

Default seat belts through the seatback

Hello RedWingVette,
Thanks for the photos of the seatbelt location. I remember this same topic and thread from 2 weeks ago. I am looking for a late model REAR black seatbelt combo from a local wrecking yard. I still have a question as to how you managed to route the seatbelts through the seatback. I keep looking at the cutout and the hole in the seat guide, and dont see how you fit the latch through this. Does the latch have a bolt that allows you to take it off before mounting.
