Default Carb, timing, acceleration issues

Okay. I think I have my carb leaned out pretty good. I am not eating gas as much as I was. I also think my timing is down and the car idles at 900 RPMs when warm. It still has a hesitation or bog if I floor it, esp. at higher speeds in 3rd or 4th gear. If I am in 1st or 2nd and floor it the tires get all greasy and the car really goes. Am I too lean or is the timing still off? I put a lower rated spring in (3-4 Hg) my power piston pump. The jets are stock for a 1974 L-82 4 speed as are the needles.
Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

cant you get an lower idle??

What carb do you have?
sounds like you are a little lean on the secondary.

Are you are saying you get a hesitaion when you go from cruise to WOT? If so maybe you have a vacuum advance problem.

That's exactly what is happening. It doesn't happen so much in 1st and 2nd though. What kind of vacuum advance problem?

It may seem as if the gear you are in plays a part but I imagine it probably has more to do with a combination of engine RPM and how much load there is on the engine (vacuum). More load = less vacuum. When you go from cruise to WOT your engine goes from max vacuum to min vacuum. Now that I have thought about it your most likely culprit is an improperly set secondary air valve adjustment. Read this post, especially what is written by Lars (QJet guru). http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ight=secondary

If that isn't it then verify your timing, often times ignition problems and carb problems give the same symptoms.
