Default Wow that rust cleaned up nicely!

I used the whire wheel on the floor pans and foot areas to prepare for carpet. That rust that I sent pics of yesterday cleaned up great! Ready for Rustoleum or POR 15 or whatever I can get quickly.

I was happy as a lark, grinding away still wondering why the right side floor pan was so easy to polish up under the seat area, yet the drivers side one still had the original undercoat and carpet glue so thick I couln't remove it.

Well after cleaning up the pass. side and applying GooGone to the area behind the seat to remove the carpet glue, I started on the drivers side. The rust on the footwell was much more that right side, but cleaned up OK. Then I stuck the wire wheel in the bottom seatbelt well under seat area. Bad news there's a rust hole about 1/4 inch wide on the side of the well. I'm guessing that the right side one was already replaced because there's no undercoat on it. Now I'm wondering what to do about the drivers side. It cleaned up very well otherwise but I sure as heck don't like having a seatbelt bolted to an area that rusty. The real weak area is no where near the belt hold down bolt but still it makes me nervous.

Gosh it was lookin' soooooo GOOD until then!

Markus is right - probably easy to fix - and you may not need
an entire floorboard. However, crawl under and inspect the
heavy steel seatbelt reinforcement. My 75 was rotted to hell.
I think you can get these from a vendor, still.

OK - maybe Marck is right, too - just not as helpful.

You can always shape a metal plate and pop rivet
it on the floor with RTV silicone, for low buget

I would just get a piece from a wrecked car, it should be fairly easy to weld in the new piece, the floorboard is pretty thin so a small home welder (MIG preferrably not with fluxcore) should get the job done in no time. Just be carefull with the tank vent line and brake line running along the frame.
