Default Interior Progress

I did manage to clean up more of the interior. Got the tach redone by a trusted local shop who told me that the new MidAmerica circuit board was way out of kilter and would have been off by almost a grand if I had put it in without him adjusting it on the bench.

I've got the heater box off the inside - at LENGTH! - what a project. Still haven't been able to remove the darn core from the heater box but it's not a worry ... actually I just want to reseal the box (to match the seals on my new a/c system) so it's not a top priority to replace the core. IF I can get one locally and put it in there I'll do it but I'm not sweating it (no pun intended). The whole purpose of this carpet/interior job is to cool it off inside not worry about the heater!!

I'm questioning putting the new foam seal behind the box though. The factory tar paper between the heater box and firewall is intact and it seems to make sense to keep it there. I'll use the foam everywhere else but what do ya think about the seal from the box to the firewall? Am I missing something and maybe I should use the foam in addition to the existing tarpaper?

I can't help with an answer, but given the trouble to get into the core, I'd sure go ahead and replace it while I was in there. TTT

I used black silicon (in the tube with the pistol grip squeezer) when I reinstalled the heater box. Just to make sure it sealed onto the old gasket on the firewall. It was only a few dollars and worked great.

Change the heater core while you are there it is no fun going back in there!

Good luck!

Thanks. Funny you should mention that.. I spent two hours yesterday trying to get the heater box apart to do just that. Couldn't get to the core itself and I just got disgusted .... cleaned up the heater box, lubed up the controls and put it back in. The core was good when I bought the car but since I put the new motor in, it's been disconnected. I purposely plugged the intake and water pump taps for the heater hoses on the new motor. Even with the old motor, it was hot inside that car!

I confirmed w/the wife last night - even she can't see us EVER using the heater even with the reflectix under the carpet. That stuff would have to be a miracle to get rid of enough heat to need the heater to be functional in San Diego!

Since you have the entire dash apart, now is the time to do it. You will regret it later.
