It would shake and shimmy from 0 to 45 mph, and it finally quit working last night. So what parts do I need to start looking at first? I assume the 2 cables, transducer, and a gear inside the transmission are the components other than the guage itself.
If it is just a bad cable, where should I get new ones at?
I just replaced my lower cable it helped. I still have the jitters but what the h ell, got the lower cable at auto zone it was like $15.
hope that fixs it.

For a little trouble shooting, disconnect the short cable at the transducer and use a drill motor to turn the cable back toward the speedo. If the speedo works go to the tranny end and disconnect the cable. Use the drill on the cable and see if the speedo is working. It will be nice if you have an extra set of eyes for help too. On mine, I have to run the drill motor in reverse to see the speedo move in the normal direction. Hope this helps narrow it down for you.

Eddie, that is a great idea. I have a good cordless drill that should work well.
And by the way, I love that picture in your signature. Our old C3's have some of the coolest views from inside the flight deck.
Well... looks to me like it is transducer and bad lower cable. The upper cable operates the guage smoothly. The lower cable broke off at the transducer end inside the transducer. It is much more difficult to turn the transducer from the bottom than it is to turn the top cable by hand.
Other than the pain in the **** of having to drop more money into the car unexpectedly, it will be an easy and rewarding job. The cruise control has never worked exactly right, and I'm beting the transducer is the culprit. Probably caused the lower cable to break, too.
