Where can I get the press at? I'm afraid I have this problem as when I come to a stop, and the car shifts down into 1st,(auto) and I go to take off, I have some serious grinding in the right rear. As the tires rotate, I start to hear scraping sound as they rotate around, like a pulsating scratch from the brakes if you had a warped rotor. I know better this evening once I get the car up.
I think the bearing install tool works like a harmonic damper install tool. I think the long black tube is a sleeve that slides on the tool. I also think the other end of the chrome portion threads onto the spindle then the nut pushes the sleeve, pressing the bearings into place.
Dave -Thanks - OK - I get it now.
However, I thought that the spindle threads weren't strong enough to pull against.
Maybe that's only when the nut grabs a few threads at first
when used with the halfshaft flange.
How do you setup the hub in the press to press the spindle out? The big spindle flange will not fit in the slot in the cross beam... My solution was convuluted, although ultimately successful... I drilled 2 holes in the cross beam and inserted long 3/8" bolts. The bolts went through the hub (where the trailing arm bolts go). So basically the hub was suspended below the cross beam. I have a feeling there's a better way...
