I have a '72 t-top LT1. No apparent evidence of air conditioning on the car (darn). When I removed the storage compartment carpet behind the seats, I find a curious "AC" in white chalk on the floor. The Corvette Fact Book hints that that meant for the builders to install air conditioning in the car. I haven't found anything to confirm that. The car was a serious drag racer in the past and possibly (?!) the AC was removed for various racing reasons. Does anyone have a definitive correlation between "AC" chalk marking and A/C in the car? BTW, the tach redline is 6500 not the 5500 one would expect in an AC car.
The 72 LT1's that had a/c were in the last of the model year. The factory put a lower rpm tach in the instrument cluster, hoping to keep the owners from over-revinng their engines and throwing off belts. I don't have my 70-72 Judging Guide but it should be discernable if the car was a/c equipped or not. lower rpm tach, all of the mounting hardware, different heater box (I think). Have you looked at the Judging Guide?

Why you would WANT? an air conditioned LT-1 is beyond me. The LT-1 was a hgh winding motor and the A/C cars are a PITA to adjust valves on and throw fan belts well before the engine is done with it's top end charge (ask the man who owned one and is GLAD his present LT-1 is NOT an C60 optioned Vette.) There are a few C60 optioned LT-1s for sale in my area, the nicest one is a War Bonnet Yellow coupe going for $29.5K if you have to have one. Sell you present coupe and go looking for a car with a "tank sticker" like the prviously mentioned coupe has. The chalk marks are usually "C60" on a A/C coupe and the refrence can be found under the heater box on the floorboard under the heat shield. Any C60 Vette has modifications to the firewall, radiator support and other engine compartment holes that would have probably been overlooked by someone "ditching" the A/C unit. The std LT-1 has a "neat" set of deep groove pulleys and other engine accessories that compliment the high RPM potential of the solid lifter small block. I'll take mine W/O air conditioning after owning a C60 equipped LT-1 over 15 years ago.

Wow...Eric, you really know how to make a guy feel good
But seriously, why not be cool in the 72? with those low compression pistons. mine is a pooch compared to the 70 LT-1......And if I really want to go fast, I'll pull one of the BB's out
