FLASH!!! AB 2683 passes CA Senate
AB 2683 was sent back to the Senate by the Assembly on 8/25 and yesterday, 8/26 a minor administrative change was made. The 8/23 amendment to exempt 35 year old cars from the visual inspection ONLY and only IF they have a "collector car insurance policy" is a sham!
The bill is scheduled for a third reading and vote in the Senate today, and then goes back to the Assembly for a final vote.
Prior votes were virtually right along party lines with virtually all Democrats voting "Aye". All Republincan Senators voted "NOE", but three Republican Assembly Members (Nakanishi, District 10, Lodi, Richman District 38, Granda Hills, Maldonado, District 33, San Luis Obisbo) voted "Aye"
Please e-mail and phone your legislators, ESPECIALLY ANY WHO ARE DEMOCRATS, or the above three mentioned Republican Assembly members.

South Carolina has NO vehicle inspection at all, for any car...

Truth be told SC did have inspections a few years ago but could not figure out how to get it right so they gave it up. Which is fine by me.

as defined in Section 259, is exempt from those portions of the test
required by subdivision (f) of Section 44012 of the Health and Safety
Code, if the collector motor vehicle meets all of the following
criteria:
(1) Submission of proof that the motor vehicle is insured as a
collector motor vehicle, as shall be required by regulation of the
bureau.
(2) The motor vehicle is at least 35 model years old.
(3) The motor vehicle complies with the exhaust emissions
standards for that motor vehicle's class and model year as prescribed
by the department, and the motor vehicle passes a functional
inspection of the fuel cap and a visual inspection for liquid fuel
leaks.
So they are willing to exempt true "hobbiest" vehicles while cracking down on daily drivers. Might be easier if they threw in an exemption with an annual mileage limit.
