The auto tranny on my 76 leaks a bit. I have to add 1/2 quart every saturday. Odometer says 16,000 which I believe is 216,000. Should I use tranny stop leak or will it just cause more leaks (I heard it can cause leaks as it reconditions the seals)? Thanks!
Honestly, I haven't even had her in the air to check under her since I bought her 2 weeks ago! The tranny feels great so I haven't really sweated it.
Anyone use the stop leak before? I might add just a little to see what happens. Gonna try to run over to a place with a lift tomorrow and just get her in the air and look around too! Thanks!
Most trans stop leak is basically brake fluid I am told. It may swell the seals for a little bit, but with the volume you are talking I doubt it will last long. I would just bite the bullet and fix it. I wouldn't want to get stranded if that front seal goes. At least see where it is coming from.

IMHO, adding any sort of Stop Leak product is a bandaid. IF all of the pan bolts are tight and there aren't any obvious lines or fittings that are loose, then you may just have a worn out Turbo 350 Trans. Get it rebuilt. The good news is that any resepectable shop can rebuild the turbo 350 and 400 transmissions easily and fairly economically.
