Rip off, it's just a 1227747 ECM. They are dirt cheap from junkyards and cheaper than that from ECM refurbishers. Also, the calpac for a v8 is pretty cheap. The Turbo City one size fits all PROM bin is a joke, your car will not run correct with that. If you want to upgrade to a later ECM you have to do your own mapping. The connector stuff is a joke too..who in his right mind would cut up the original harness and install those conenctors with amp connectors prone to causing problems.

there are MUCH better solutions out there.

Get a 7747 + the calpak. Then get the edge card connector from http://www.speedtronics.net They also have a prominator in various versions. This little device eliminates the irritating prom burning/erasing procedure and lets you program the flash memory on it to mimic the prom, in fact with a dipswitch you can select multiple bins for instance for performance, conomy, valet ...etc. The amount of bins it can hold is dep[endent on mem. size. The Prominator comes with it's own software
The company is run by 2 upstanding guys, their products are second to none and you will really love the instant on the fly tunability and the other awesome features. Contact Bill Hitchkock or Ken Kelly for more info (see site) Basically, they just used all the info that others have offered for free and devoted their spare time to and are trying to make a quick buck. It used to cost 400$, I see it's 500$ now...well well... somewhere the price of proms must have gone up w/ 100$ or so

To read the serial data get Jonas Bylund's WinBin, it's free.

The reason TC uses the 7747 ECM is because it's also a TBI ECM (and it will run the CFI (the dual IAC circuit is no biggie, it's a parrallel setup anyway) The 7747 is one of the most hacked ECMs out there, codes are widely known so tuning bins are available. Do a search on GM-ECM and DIY-EFI and you will see the vast amount of knowledge out there, most of it on the 7747 and the 8746, which is also a TBI ECM but it has a MAT sensor input and a lean cruise mode (NICE!), the 8746 ECM is still being worked on but gaining popularity.

Default Thanks!

When I was working with my idling problem I talked to you about I was looking for ways to rasie my idle. Luckly last night I found that my problem was a Hyperchip, and the timing set at 6 degrees BTDC. I put the factory chip in and advanced the timing and it appears to have corrected the problem. I appreciate all your input and will keep it for future reference. I'm guessing the timing was preventing a clean burn at idle with the new parts?

Anyway, she is back up and running with noticeable gains.

Thanks!

The hypertech is junk, if someone installed that better check the thermostat too, chances are there's a 160 one in it and if the climate is cold your car may not go in closed loop or very late. 172F is needed for closed loop. W/ a 180s stst the hypertech chip may run well w/ timing properly set. I had it too but ONLY tog et rid off the annoying TCC lockup in lower 3 gears. Great to hear it's running fine.

Twin Turbo,
I put one of these chips in the wife's 82 to also get rid of the lockup in the lower 3. The car ran fine for awhile, but now idles eradicly and a little high. Do you think a change back to the 180 thermostat is in order. Also you mentioned timing, factory specs?
Thanks

I would remove the stat, check timing (with hei bypass disconnected!) and set it to somewhere around 8-12 or so..whatever the engine likes best (I used to set mine a bit high when I still had the CFI, around 12 or so), then check how it does and leave the chip in.

I found my major prob with the chip was spark knock. Of course the operation was to advance the timing and change fuel rate at all speeds. I had to retard the timing to help ease the spark knock, around 6 BTDC. Knock sensor checks out fine so I figure this is just the major downfall of the chip. For now I'm happy with the good old stock chip and a smooth idle. Twin Turbo, any recommendations for a new performance chip? In case I get one in the future.

Thanks, Jerome

I put one in my 82 150,000 miles ago and it has not caused a single problem. Before there was much or any discussion about the TCC lockup alternatives.
