Well I got my shifter installed and while I had it down, I went ahead and put reflectics on the floorpans and trans tunnel.
If that stuff reflects as much heat down as it did reflecting my own body heat back at me it should work great.
The shifter is a B&M Mega shifter for a Camaro console..they are shorter than the regular one. I also just used a peice of sheet metal I had laying around for the top. I plan on changing it out to brushed aluminum soon. On a scale of 1-10 this job is probably a 7. Took about a whole day to do it.
Got any more pictures? I'd love to see some more detail of the metal panel.
I'll take a couple more tommorrow. It's really nothing fancy, I just made a template of the top where I wanted my holes to be...got out the cutoff wheel and went to town on the plastic cover. I removed the ash tray so that I would have room for my switches and cut out for the shifter. Sat it on top of the sheetmetal and traced the cutouts. After that was done I lightly glued it to what was left of the plastic for support, flipped it over and drilled some holes all the way thru for the window switches and heater/AC controls. It will be alot neater looking when I put the alum. plate in. I'll take a lot more time with it.
I took the vette to work yesterday and all I can say is WOW!! what a difference in inside temps. The summers here in Ga get hot. I'm not afraid to say that the reflectix lowered the inside temps by as much as 20 degrees.
The shifter works flawless too. Very precise shifts.
I always hated the slop in the stock shifter. It was almost impossible to hit the gears I wanted everytime in a racing situation,I'm glad I have a rev limiter in it, that is why I just left it in drive at the strip. Now It will hit what gear I want when I want. Can't wait till Sunday to see if it helps my times
