Vinegar Like An Acid
I am rebuilding my calipers, had rust on the inside of them
but not on the sleeves. So all this talk of vinegar works
great stuff had me curious So I put in the calipers
plit in 2 into a oil change pan 50/50 water/vinegar. 2 minutes
after that it started to bubble like it was in a acid bath. I put
them in last nite and their still boiling turning white
as we speak think i'll leave them for another day
and see what happen's. So thanks to all
I think you are asking for trouble, big time. Acid bath and brake piston seals do not mix. Get some professional help. This is not a repair that should be fooled with. Even with a dilute acetic acid solution.
I was skeptical about this vinegar thing, but I'm now a believer. I tried it on the splash shields of the '74, and it worked great. It's slower than things like "Oxysolv", but does a better job. It seems like it releases/dissolves the rust, rather than chemically changing it, and it's not too agressive...
I've used vinigear to clean the heater for the horses water tank for 20 years. Have had the same heat element for about 10 with no problems at all. Soak it over night, lose about 1/8" of crud, rinse and it looks nearly new and is ready to use.
