Well today was test and tune day and I managed a new best ever time. It was actually great to get 10 full passes in. I was trying many combos and workin the tree real hard too. Here's a pic with my new best numbers.
Nice run
What are your engine mods, and were you using slicks? I have the stock 79 l-48 with a wild cam, performer rpm intake, 650 cfm speed demon, and some 17by12 road race tires front and back, and im wondering what id be able to run
OK, I run my original L-48 with automatic transmission. I've added an Edelbrock Performer cam and intake. Dynamax headers, MSD-6AL, Lars has tweaked my quadrajet carb, and yes I do run slicks. Hoosier 28 x 9's . Also I've added a TCI Streetfighter convertor. It is a fun package and has been rather consistant (*knocks on wood) at our local tracks. I have weighed the car with me in it at 3640 lbs.
In response to a couple of PM's, here is a brief description of my package.
First off, I should have my head examined for running a numbers matching Corvette thru the 1/4 mile about 150 times. I'm planning to build a 450 horse 454 this coming winter and then safely stow my correct engine under the bench.
Currently it is the original L-48 with exactly 90,000 kms on it. Power is fed through a TH-350 and this past winter the trans was freshened for the first time. While i was at it, I added a TCI Streetfighter Converter.
The engine is currently run with an Edelbrock Performer Cam and Intake. The heads are completely stock as are the pistons and crank.
The carb has been freshened by LARS. And I did purchase a distributor recurve kit from LARS as well. To protect the engine and improve spark I added an MSD-6AL complete with a 3 Step rev limiter. Also I run MSD 8mm wires.
The exhaust exits thru Dynomax ceramic headers and for effect I've added a nice set of exhaust cut-outs. Did that for my neighbours! hehehe.
While I'm at the track, headers are open, and I use a Hurst roll control, so I can heat the tires well. This year I just starting using slicks. I'm running Hoosier 28 x 9 x 15's.
With this combo, I can stage the car on the converter around 3000 rpm and then flash it at launch. I shift at 5400 rpm and cross the finish line at about 4500 rpm. I know thats not the right rpm for the finish but it is a project.
Anyway, I hope most of this makes sense and is of some use to anyone considering or running a similar package.
I race again is 2 weeks, so if anyone knows a way I can sneek a couple more tenths outa this package, please advice.
