Default C3 Jacking

I get to overhaul my brakes this fall. I want to place the rear or the car on jack stands. What is the best way to raise the car and place the jack stands under it: place jack under rear spring and raise back half of the car at one time, jack each wheel up and then place the jack stand.

Your jack stands and jacking points should be on the frame only.

Why not under the rear spring. It carries all of the weight anyway so you are not putting any additional stress on the frame. If you only lift the car from one corner at a time you are flexing the frame a lot. My vote is under the rear spring and under the front frame cross member. Maybe I have just been lucky all these years but I have never had a problem using either of these two points to raise the car. Jack stands are another story altogether though and I DO place them under the jacking points to hold the car up after raising it with the jack. I would NEVER place jack stands under the frame horns as indicated in the previous page from the FSM.

Use the frame. It comes down to weight distribution and safety.

Under the differential? Probably an ok spot, but not specifically recommended. Under any other portion of the spring? Definitely not.

Depending on how high I need to go, I'll alternate right & left, raising he jackstands bit by bit.
