I know this shows my ignorance gut I am replacing the stock intake on my 81 with a Edelbrock performer and dont know if I need the EGR or NON EGR, it is stock except for the EFI is removed and running a Holley 650.
Thanks
i guess it depends on how indepth your state inspector goes. up here, they seem to half-*** the inspections on my 77, but give me the page by page inspection of my 81.
as long as you plan on keeping the stock intake and the egr valve in a box somewhere, i would go for the one without the egr provisions. after all, you missing the largest piece of the emission system.....the electronic carb.
Get the Performer WITH EGR provision! It used to come with a EGR block-off plate in the box. I know you can buy a custom milled aluminum block-off plate on Ebay for peanuts. I bought one myself.
If you ever need to install the EGR on that new intake, you can do it EASY. It is more work to pull off that Edelbrock manifold and swap back to the stocker if you ever need to.
Not sure how the EGR provison is for the mentioned intakes but a gasket without the provision pretty much takes care of it. The one with the provision would be OK to get but using a block off plate will still allow heat to enter into the EGR chamber (just not flow across the intake), the gasket will stop it at the heads.
