Default On the road again !!

I blew my tranny shortly after installing the new 406, I put in another Super T10 to hold me over for a couple of months because when I contacted Keilser about their TKO 600 they said 13 weeks, so I said to myself OK 20 weeks, that's next spring.

Anyway I also plan on putting in a 79 or older rear end, I have found a place that sells a kit to install the older rear end in an '80. I just have to figure out what gears I need. Mostly driven on the street but I am going to take it to the track a few times. I am thinking 4.10 but probably go with a somewhere in the 3.55 to 3.73 but I m not sure the TKO has a 2.83 first gear so this is going to take a little fingering out.

In the meantime I have to baby this "new" T10 and it is very hard to say the least.

You got the size I'd go with the numerically lower gear ratio. Your 406 should be able to pull it.

My 3.70's just didn't have enough top end on them. My little crappy 300HP small block would rev out to 6500-7000 in 4th. I have a 3.55 rear end sitting in the garage that I'm thinking about putting into the car before it comes out again. I'm going 383( thanks to my ever changing mind and budget) and figure the 3.55 gears should be good for the engine.... I might actually consider changing to a 3.36 gear... but only after I run the 3.55's

What failed on the old tranny? Was it also a Super T10?

Personally I would 355's for the rear with the TKO. I have run alot of querries with the TKO CALCULATOR and for me my 370's equate to a 480 1st gear but that is probably too stout and off the line I'll just melt away the tires. 370's also give 2300 RPM at 75mph and you'll get 2100 with the 355's (all specs using my 25/60/15 as comparibles).

The old tranny was a Super T10 they are only rated in the 300ft/lbs neighbourhood, I blew 2nd and third gear by putting my foot into it not by powershifting or anything like that, the tires will spin in 2nd and third if I get on it and that was too much for the tranny i guess.

This is the hard part, the car is street fdiven most of the time and the first gear of the TKO 600 is 2.83 so I am thinking 3.55 is good enough for total torque multiplication of ~10 ?

I just don't really know enough about picking the right gears
