Default Molding Bumpers

Any of you out there that have molded the rear or front bumper in what did you do because of the bumper being urethane and the car fiberglass. What did you use to mold the bumpers in. Did you use bondo or fiberglass or a panel bond adhesive. Any advice is appriciated

Default A friend of mine molded in fiberglass bumpers

It looked great on his '77. I think he got the bumpers from Ecklers, but that was about 25 years ago. It seems to me molding urethane bumpers to a fiberglass body would be problematic. I would think the flexibility of the bumpers would eventually result in cracking around the joints. I an certainly no expert, however, and I am curious to know if this has been done successfully.

Fiberglass to fiberglass seems to be the only way to go.

I've seen a couple of cars here in the past -- but I think all had aftermarket fiberglass bumpers. You might be able to search - seems the cars were being painted at the time -- there was one young lady who had a redone car with leopard print (paint) at the vents -- she had molded in bumpers -- her car was even in a magazine -- but I don't remember her name.

Sounds like you can just attach the bumper as normal and fill in the crack with some Bondo - Fiberglass Resin. If you use all of the bolts to hold the bumper on then the bondo should hold without cracking. The resin doesn't stick to the urethane all that well, but unless someone sits on your bumper then it should be OK, especially if you apply like 10 clear coat coats...that stuff is almost as tough as iron.
