Anyone have a problem with stripped out screw holes in the interior? The 74's interior is hanging in there by a thread! I Think every screw is either loose or has fallen out! Im gonna be gutting the interior to repair it over the winter and could use some advice on fixing the holes that are stripped out. I dont think that they are all clips, I think some of them screw into sheet metal. Thanks in advance.
With stripped out holes in fiberglass, you can replace them with a small strip of sheet metal secured over the hole with pop rivets. This is particularily effective with door panel screws on the older cars. Corvette Central sells a kit with these pieces, but you can make your own fairly easily. Unlike the plastic anchors, this is a more or less permanent repair.
Some screws have "U" or "J" nuts that are often missing. You just have to replace them .
In some cases, you can substitute a larger screw. Most of the interior trim screws on a Vette have a smaller than standard head. If you go to a real fastner distributer, not just the auto parts store, you can buy these special fastners such as a #8 with a #6 head. If you put a #10 standard screw where a number eight with a #6 head goes, it looks pretty bad. However, if you go wit a #10 with a #8 head it doesn't look so bad. If you can find a #10with a #6 head, so much the better.

i have used j b weld to fill the stripped hole in, then when it dries(usually i wait a day) then i drill the correct hole and put in the orgional or same size screw..unless its a bad ''u'' nut ,,then i would change the nut..
