What setup of stereos are you all runing I am thinking about getting 4x6 speakers for the dash with new grills because my dash grills have fell apart. Than I am going to keep the 6x9 in the back that where with the car and add a infinity bass link or the Kenwood wOOx for the sub. I know alot of people don't like bass but I do so I was just curious to see what other people have for a stereo setup in you vettes and what might be the best sound for the buck thanks

Was a fun project... Have Infinity 6x9s in the back with Infinity Components in the front kick panes with tweeters under the dash grills. Amp is mounted in between the 6x9s and I just finished installing a JLAudio 8" under the large compartment door of my 1980. Great sound with awsome base... I'm done... Ed
What speakers will fit under the dash where the factory was. What sizes most I find say they don't come with the grill, but my dash where the grills were has just fell apart so no factory speaker grill.

I believe they are a 4x9...keep an eye on ebay...grills are there all the time or give Wilcox Corvette a call... President is redred62 on this forum...they seem to always beat catalog prices.
Nice setup 80Texas. Are thoughs a custom kicks or qlogic. I have my whole stereo in boxes waiting for next season. I am installing 3 Audiopipe 10" subs, two MA Audio amps, Panasonic source unit, and for front speakers I am still trying two figure it out. I am thinking about jamming some 51/4" components into the dash and fiberglassing it and paint it the same color as the car. but I like those kicks. I also have a pair of Kove audio single point source drivers I may use. I have been installing for about 15 years but this car is really small to work on for a big guy. If anyone needs prices on audio equipment let me know I also sell it and I have over 16 product lines avalible and will be starting up a canadian car audio website in the spring.
I installed a Sony CDX-F5700 stereo. You have to cut the gage panel. I used a dremel with no problems. Install was pretty straight forward. I installed Boston Acoustic 4X6 (FX7) in the dash and 6X9 (NX97) in the rear. The speakers sound great and fit in the stock location with no mods.

Probably just a typo, but the dash speakers are 4x6, not 4x9.
I'm running two Kicker truck speakers in the rear of my '77. Right now they're running off a Rockford Fosgate 100a (25 watts RMS/channel) and they have no problem overcoming road noise. The subs are 8", with horn tweeters and they should great even underpowered like they are. As for the front, I'll be replacing them with Infinity plate 4x6's. My dash is in great shape, so I don't need grills. The only drawback to my setup is diminished room for the t-tops, but they still fit, I just have to stack them instead of side by side. The tunnel effect that you get from the rear really focuses the sound to the front of the car.

I have some Boston Acoustics in the dash of my 70. They are too deep for the drivers side and rub the back of the speedo. I didn't know this before I installed them. Really sucks because now I am going to have to hunt some new speakers or mount these down low which I wasn't wanting to do. The front speakers are inaudible at speed anyway. Now I am getting ready to install something in the rear. Lots of good ideas here. I have an amp that has been setting in the den for about a year or so that I can use for the rear. It is a USAcoustics 4085. That should drive whatever I want use. I have been thinking of mounting a couple of 6X9's back there. Keep the ideas coming. The pics are welcome.
An excellent CD HU, amp. w/ 5" components- 5" doors, tweeters in kicks or dash.

Now do any of you fellow vette people have any pics of a stereo setup in a 68-77. Just curious since I have a 75 vette.
Kenwood eXcelon
Amp. in center rear compartment - (center tray removed). Has to be installed from the side since it won't fit through the center opening.
Tweaked removable rear speakers w/ 2 long throws (equil. to 2 8s) & a dome in each.
It ROCKS !
Rarely use it. The engine makes enough music for me.
just got finished w/ ours ...77... will post a pic later . wife took it to work today ........ kenwood somthin or other cd radio . in car when bought ....... pioneer 4x6 coaxials in dash (in retrospect, I would have ordered some of the high power replacement speakers from ecklers or somebody, the 4x6's didn't really fit and are held up there by 4 speed nuts catching the corners of the speakers on the original cast frame).... can't hear'em unless you fade 60% or more to the front though ...... Memphis Audio 6X9 coaxials in back (kevlar cone, external x-over, blahblahblah)..... MTX thunder somthin amp mounted on a panel in between the rear speakers (got the idea from a post on this forum)...... sounds darn good and did it for about $200 .... my main concern was having room for the T-tops and so that gave me all of 3" of space in the back to work with ....... used the reflectix all over the rear and top, then used vinyl (red of course) to cover the top and the speaker panel ....... will post a pic later .......
