O.K. today I decided to paint the underside of my hood (black), I was going to take the hood off (with help) and paint it but didn't want to chance dropping it so I masked off the edges and covered the fenders. Instead of getting paint from the auto paint store for my spray gun I opted for 5 cans of high-temp spray paint (ugh!), I know, I know, I can hear you guys saying WHAT A MORON! I can't disagree, especially since I knew better.
Well of course the job came out crappy. I mounted the Corvette name (red letters) at the top portion just above the rubber weather seal. I must say the consept is beautiful, too bad the paint job isn't.
I'm wondering if I could use some sort of sanding pad to even out the spots or just leave screwed-up alone and wait til spring and take it to a paint shop and have it done right.
So to punish myself for this crime I washed and waxed (Meguair's Gold) the Vette all the while feeling remorse for the bone-head paint job (hack job) I did on the underside of the hood. When I finished I took much pleasure in the beauty of passion and vowed never again to do a job the wrong way!
lightly sand it back down, go buy 1 can of Krylon Semi-Flat black spray paint, tape everything back off and spray it....it will turn out fine and look like its suppose to........Don
that's how I would have done it.... except I would only have gotten 2 cans of paint, wouldn't have used high temp paint, and I wouldn't have masked everything properly and would have gotten black overspray all over my car.
I painted the underside of a 68 I had a few years ago with that black crinkle spray paint. It looked pretty nice and it hid most of the existing imperfections. It;s the paint made for trunk liner repainting and the heat didn't bother it.
