Default Heater core removal?

Ok, I realize it is still warm outside but the other morning was quite chilly and the window was pretty fogged and my defroster/heater isnt working. I tracked down the heater core itself and am wondering, how in the heck do you get to it? I am thinking it is bad because the hoses are bypassed. Is there a way to test it in the car? And so if it is bad does anyone have any tips on getting the thing out of the car?

Thanks in advance!

Default heater core.

I'm working on a 1979 L48 right now. It is a MAJOR undertaking. But because I am doing a interior restoration also it is no big deal because my whole interior is out anyway.. You have to take out the right kick panel, center console, and at least take the right side of the dash loose. Both the inner and outer air boxes have to come out if you have AC....the heater core is held in place by a bracket/clamp from the outside portion of the air box. I just finally got mine to where I can get to it last night. I can take some photos if someone can tell me how to post them.....do a search on the forum for heater core there are some tips but I found out about the outer air box needing to be removed elsewhere.....This is a MAJOR PITA!!!! But hated the thought of having a new interior and the old heater core letting loose....Maybe you want to consider some other repairs while it's out...

Good Luck

Danny

Here is a link to what was a good web page on what to do but since the crash it doesn't load. One of the fellow members put it together. Maybe it will later on.Heater core replace.
