I have a very nice used 400 for sale if you are interested. Built for street/ strip duty. Has all the good parts, including a 2.75 low gear set. That set is $400 alone! It works perfect,$750 takes it.
$750.00 dsen't sound that bad too me. I just spent $2500.00 on mine and we are doing the assembly ourselves!!! Althought we are going all out on it. Alot of cryo-treated parts, trans-brake, custom converter with a billet front section. It is going to have to survive a 600-700 HP Big Block and a 300-400 shot of nitrous.
I bought the Mega Monster from Monster Motorsports. Purchased it several months ago. Unfortunately, it's going to be another few months before I'm able to install the MM and my new 383 stroker from AR Racing.
Monster Motorsports has the best bang for the buck in my opinion. They were very good to deal with and shipping was quick via FedEx.
I'll post my results when I'm able to get it installed.
I want to purchase from a company that will back it with some sort of warranty. Living here in Georgia for 7 years, I've learned that "rebuild" means different things to different people.
Monster Motorsports does have a 90 day / unlimited mileage Limited Warranty from the date of purchase. You can check with them as to what the "Limits" are. Like I mentioned in my previous post, it will be awhile before I can install the MM TH400. So the warranty doesn't do me any good. I could have had someone local rebuild the existing tranny, but they wouldn't have used the parts you get with MM. I would have also been paying more to have it done locally. Another problem with the locals is that they never wanted to answer questions. They just try to shuck and jive their way around.
As far as the meaning of "rebuild" goes. I think you'll find that in any State and not just the honorable and grand State of Georgia.
To build an auto transmission that can handle 600 hp repeatedly, it takes high quality, heavy duty parts put together by an expert. A flashy web site and slick marketing won't get the job done.
No way can someone build that kind of transmission for less than
$1500.00 The parts alone for that stout of a build are at least $1000.00. I had a 700R4 done by a local shop here in Iowa that was built to handle 500hp to go into my stroker (383) Camaro. These folks specialize in HD auto transmissions. Their warranty is one full year, no restrictions on mileage or usage. He encouraged me to try to break it. It cost me $1500.00 for that 700R4 rebuild.
A 90 day warranty is not much of a warranty. Anyone can build you a 90 day transmission. You'll go thru 5 of their "Monster" trannys with that kind of HP & Torque to every one that's built properly to handle that much power from the get go.
I'd figure on spending right around $2000 for what you are needing (if you need one that can handle 600hp). That trans offered by a forum member sounds like a good deal to me at $750.00 (If you didn't tick him off that is) .
Good luck.
