My car has some fiberglass damage on the driver-side front fender from where my wife hit it while it was stored in our garage. My insurance will pay for the repair, so I got an estimate. The body shop guy (a fiberglass "expert") says that his estimate includes repainting the header panel and the 2 front fenders, but does not include the hood or doors.
The paint job on the car is from 1985, and it's acrylic enamel in the original '70 donny green. My question is with blending. Is it possible that this new paint will look anywhere close to paint that is almost 20 years old? Is it possible to blend the new in with the old so as not to see a big difference? I doubt that it will, and at the very least, I will have to spring for a hood repaint.
A good body man will blend and match the paint. The newest computer paint systems can be adjusted quite well to match the paint. My body had his '74 nose painted and you cannot tell the difference, and it is red which is famous for fading.
