I wish the search function worked so I wouldn't have to re-ask this tired question, but here goes:
I am looking for a 1 5/8" header for my 73 when I add vortec heads this winter. A lot of people recommend the Dynomax coated header. How is the ground clearance with them? What are other good-fitting choices in that size? I'm going for an idle to 5500 powerband to match my TH400/3.08 gears and daily driving, so I was thinking of using Tri-Y headers. Doug Thorley sells a street rod header that might fit, anyone try it? Someone sent me this last year, from Stan's Headers. They cost $335 plus $30 for 3/8" flanges. I like the collector connections, could live without the chrome.
What do you all think?
TIA
Joe

Doug Thorley 1&5/8"hdrs on mine (not the tri-Y) - fit just fine. Went with the industrial chrome and have used them on a '90 Chevy p.u. before - worked great. Chrome blues near the cly heads but still looks great. cardo0
I have the Dynamax ceramachrome headers and they sit kinda low. I've not seen other headers on Vettes so I can't say it they are any lower or higher than other headers. When I say kinda low, I mean about an inch lower than the oil pan. I will say that I've used the Dynomax Ceramachrome headers on a '69 Camaro and a '69 Chevelle and they were great. The finish lasted for a long time.
Edit:Sorry, I've been drinking, so the spelling is off.
Anybody else? My choices for good 1 5/8" headers seem to be ceramic coated Hooker Comps and Dynomax Ceramacoats, plus the above mentioned tri-y. Has anyone had any fitment problems with the Hookers? How low do they hang? Joe
