What are some headlight options for a 75 vette with no vacuum system so I don't want popups.

If you don't want pop ups because of the vacuum system, take the previously stated advice and replace the vacuum type with aftermarket electric type motors to raise the pop up headlamps. If you don't like pop ups because of the way they look, then your options are those (ugly) square aftermarket types that fit in the space where the pop ups use to be:

Which come from Ecklers. I really hate the way those look.

Or, the really cool Guldstrand racing L88 style which are round like the pop ups, but stay static, and they have clear plexiglas covers that are obviously to smooth out the airflow over them:

Those can be purchased from Guldstrand racing:

I really like those. They are expensive, but not too much more than the ugly Ecklers square type.

Or you can do what my mechanic did, and basically remove the guts of the pop ups, and lock 'em down, so the car remains looking natural, but the headlamps no longer lift, and place small square lightweight headlamps down in tastefully modified grilles. Sorry, no pics, but the almost look like fog lamps. Don't know how legal that is, but so far he has not had a problem. If you want to see pics, drop me an e-mail and I will get some, and can put you in touch with my mechanic if you like the discreet way they look.

Yea, I guess that's the case. If you like 'em on your Vette, more power to ya. I could care less what you do with your own car. I personally think they are unattractive and would never replace my stock pop ups with them. You also have to understand that I think 90+% of cosmetic customizing comes off looking poor, and kills overall appeal and valve. It's rare I see something custom that makes me say, "Damn, that actually works!" Guldstrand's race L88 headlamps are one of those rare cases for me.

The Baldwin Motion hood is the only other cosmetic mod I can think of that I feel really works well with the car's overall design.

My advice is, if people's unfavorable opinions about the look of aftermarket fixtures bothers you, don't put them on your car, otherwise don't be bothered by what I think. I'm sure you would not like some of the things I like, and have incorporated into the direction I've taken with my car, but I wouldn't let it bother me.

If you're implying I'm a "purist", well, that could not be farther from the truth. Not liking a particular aftermarket part for a Vette does not make one a purist. And the fact you referenced my opinion with a comment like yeah, i got a set of them "UGLY SQUARE AFTERMARKET HEADLITES" pretty much says you cared about my opinion. Hey, it wasn't like I pointed a finger at your car specifically and said "UGLY!" I criticized an aftermarket part offered in a catalog that I think detracts from the C3s looks. So you installed them on your car, whatever! You can paint a ceramic chicken pink and glue it to your roof and I still would not care. Silver00V6Camaro asked for options, so I listed all the ones that I'm aware of, EVEN the ones I don't particularly like. Who knows, maybe they would work for him and he will like his car that much more with them. More power to him.

One problem I heard of from someone who has the non-popup square light setup is that thier design prevents the lights from striking the roadway a certian distance in front of the car.

Default Pop up Headlights to go back in

I am in Australia and my brother has just found a 69 Vette that I have purchased. The car comes with recessed lights but I want to make it original and switch back to pop ups. I havent actually seen the car so could someone tell me is this going to be a terrible job to put them back and maybe even use electric motors to make the pop ups work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the parts to restore the factory pop up headlamps, and reprints of the factory assembly line assembly manuals are available, but as stated, the restoration will cost $$. It's probably best to see if you can find the pop up assemblies used from a junker or on eBay or someplace like that. I hope you didn't pay the same price for this car as you would have for a C3 with it's pop ups in place.

I will be able to find the pop-ups but there is a question of how much was taken out of the body that supports the headlights. I am unable to see what has been removed so could someone tell me what possibly was removed to install the pop-ups. Also, I would probably replace the vacuum system with electric motors to raise the pop-ups. Thanks for the help you guys are giving me.

You may want to start a new thread to pose these questions. They may not receive the attention they deserve otherwise.
