Defective Check Valve?

I was having a problem with my headlights coming up after stopping the car and I noticed the vents releasing... turned out to be vacume returning to the engine. So based on the input at the forum, I replaced the check valve (round with one attachment point on one end toward engine and two on the other).

I noticed that this device didn't have any "one way" features to it... I could blow air both ways through the valve. Is this thing just a splitter or a check valve (stops vacume return to the engine)???

That is your check valve...and yes....they do go bad. You may also see a filter (sometimes 2) in the vacuum system. Round white plastic with a single hose fitting on each side.
