I know this has been beaten to death, BUT! Coming home yesterday from a long trip I noticed flakes coming out from the upper windshield area and falling in my lap. When I went to check the flakes with a magnet they attracted. What and how do I remove from the windshield trim inside to check for frame rust. I'm getting somewhat edgy about this car becase it also used 1.5 qts of oil for a 250 mile trip.
the real bad rust will be lower, near the dash, remove the screws from the windshield trim, you may need to take off the t tops to get at the top screws easier. there should be 2 screws inside the door jam that help hold the glove compartment section, I say take out the glove compartment, because that's where I found the worst damage on mine
I'm sure you'll get more replies, this is a very common problem
This birdcage will rust. The two upper corners of my windshield frame is pretty wasted. I picked up a nice used replacement for around $130. From what I have heard, welding it in is a challenge.
If you have upper windshield rust, you have lower cage rust as well. I will almost guarantee it. It sucks, but its a fact of life with the C-2s and C-3s.
i had my winshield pulled last summer and im just starting on the sanding and painting. the lower part by the dash was good on mine but the top under the pannel and around the mirror were the worst but only heavy surface rust. i thought it was worse than it looked but after i started sanding i found it was really solid. it seams the only bad part on my car sofar has been the floorpans which both had to be replaced due to sever rust which let me flinstone the car. i was getting the windshield replaced last summer but when the guy pulled the old one out he said he didnt want to put a new one in till i got all the rust off which helped out alot with cleaning the frame. he left the windshield on the car so i could put it back on when im not working on it. anyways good luck..... mike
