Shift lever question...
Hey, guys. I had my tranny rebuilt about two years ago. While I was reinstalling it, the shift cable split on one end and I had to repair it. Since then I haven't been able to get the car to shift into 1st. I thought it was because of the damage to the cable and didn't think much else about it. Over the weekend I decided to replace the cable so I could hold 1st gear manually at the drag strip, but when I replaced the cable, I had the same result. I tried everything I could think of to make it work, but it just wouldn't. I could either get 1st - Rev, or 2nd - Park. When I consulted my Haynes (worthless stack of TP), and my assembly manual, the shift lever at the transmission that was shown in the pictures looked substantially different than the one that is on my car. I'm thinking that maybe the guy who rebuilt my transmission accidentally swapped my shift lever for someone elses. I think if the distance between the pivot point and the point where the cable attaches was shorter, I would be okay. Does anyone have a pic of what the lever should look like? I'll post pics of mine tomorrow for comparison.
