I'm having problems with my drivers side p/w on my 78. It goes down just fine but stops about half way up sometimes. Well, most of the time. It'll come up with a little help by pulling it up with your hands. I took off the door panel and everything looks just fine. Motor works and all the teeth on the regulator are there. I lubricated everything with some silicone and lithium grease and now it flys when it goes down but still doesn't want to go up without stoping about half way up. Anybody have any ideas as to what UP?
Thanks,

Worn out thermal breaker inside of the window motor?
Had this problem a few times in the past. If all else fails to solve your problem. You can take apart the motor and solder the breaker closed if it is the problem. The power windows use a 30 amp breaker on the supply side anyways. So safety shouldn't be very much of a concern.
Thanks for the info. I guess I'll take it all apart and start from scratch again. Not too concerned as it'll go up with a little help. Don't want to get to involved right now as Ocean City Corvette Crusin is next weekend. Seems something always goes wrong when a car show or cruise in is around the corner.
Check the alternator output & connections also. The motors draw a lot of current, I've seen week alternators & corroded connections cause problems raising power windows.
I put brand new gm power window motors in mine and still have the same problem. Goes down slow and up slow with help. I has to be alternator problem or connections corroded and not making a very good contact. I just havent had the time to follow up on mine. After this weekend I will have a little time. Larry
I found the best overall cure for all these symptoms was to take the mechanism out, and soak the rails in gasoline overnight, and scrub out completely down to metal with a short brush....squeeky clean, and use NOTHING but maybe WD for lube upon assy, the springs can break but I have never seen a 'weak' one....replace nylon rollers if they messed up, obviously....check for adjustment/binding upon assy.....
been ten years now with my vette rails running without any lube on them, works fine....
thanks for all the input but I found the problem. It was the motor gear. Broken teeth (plastic) that engage on the worm gear inside the motor. You can buy the motor gear for about $30. The entire motor costs arount $120. If the worm gear goes in the motor you have to buy the entire motor. As much trouble as it is to remove everything I'm going to replace the entire motor as it is the original. Will have it back together this weekend. Maybe I can enjoy a weekend in Ocean City without any hitches for a change.
