Default Help with stereo wiring

Well, Bubby decided that his 81 vette needed a CD player. So he hacked a hole in the gauge bezel, spliced into God knows how many wires and threw a Wal-mart speaker box in the hatch. Now I'm trying to straighten all his crap up.

Here's the problem: When Bubba hooked his CD player up to power, it looks like he cut the wire for the cigarette lighter (an orange constant hot?) and wired both the main power and the memory wire to it. This wire then spliced again into a yellow wire that runs through the console to the back of the car. I haven't traced the yellow wire down yet, so I've got no idea what it's even running to.

Does anyone know what wire did the factory radio use for power? Or do you think I'd be better off just running a new wire to the fuse box? And does anyone have any idea what that yellow wire running down the console goes to and why it needs a constant hot? I've got a 12v draw on the battery even when the key is turned off, so I'm suspecting that has something to do with it.

Anyone?

Correct.

Check the + bat. terminal.

I ran a larger power wire directly to bat. & use a separate switch for CD which allows CD on w/ key off.

Rarely use it. The engine makes enough music for me.
