Default Headlight problem figured out. Need help!

Ok, I figured out why my headlights were not coming on. My switch and lever inside the steering column is fine (I disassembled it all and checked). What I found was the problem the low-beam/high-beam actuator. I hope thats an accurate description. There is a metal rod that goes from the high-beam lever mechanism in the column to a white plastic plunger type actuator (as mentioned above) at the end of the steerig column that switches the high/low beam. I found that the metal rod had came out of the plunger mechanism I placed it back in, but noticed that it no longer clicked like it should when you pull the lever back. The mechanism looks like it is rivited to a piece of the steering column support. Can it be replaced and how? Where can I get one?

Please help! I also want to add the relays mentioned in above posts to make my lights brighter.

Thanks

There is an adjustment for that to move switch forward.

Have had flamethrower high beams a long time & later added Halogen lows when they came out- bright & no relays.

Its a good idea to put fuses in line between your alternator (or wherever you get your headlight power from) and your relays.

Ok, but I still have the problem of the actuator device thats not working. I found a pic of it in one of the steering column blow-up pics. It is the Dimmer switch assembly. Has anyone replaced one of these?

Thanks

I found the dimmer switch at Autozone for $12!!!!

Now I just have to put it in. I'm going to try to do it without dropping the column.

I've done this on an 80 Cutlass. there's 2 small screws hold it in place, you can get at it without lowering the column on the Cutlass don't know how much room you have in a Vette.
Oh yea you have to kinda stand on you head to do it.

Yeah, thanks Steve. I noticed when I bought the new one it had 2 slots that you would put screws through. I think I'm going to take the seat out and try to do it without lowering the column. Much less a PITA in my opinion.
