Working on a '75 with a broken hood release cable.Any way to get to the release without cutting into the hood. Our local dealer says its the only way.
Thanks,keep waving.
This comes up about once a month. Your local dealer is a young guy, right?
Anyway, there are two ways I know of:
1) (The one I used when my cable broke) Jack the car up, put it on jack stands, and carefully reach up in the area in front of the driver. With a little care and persistence, you can find the hood release cable under the hood that stretches across the front of the hood. Either pull or push the cable left to right and you will be able to pop first one side, then the other.
2) If #1 doesn't appeal to you, you can carefully take a screw driver and push it through the firewall up where the wipers are. There is a plastic plug that you can push through and the hood release mechanism is just behind that. This will pop the hood and ruin the plug. I'm sure someone will post a picture with instructions. (Warning - This may not work on certain year Vettes...I don't know about '75s)
75's have the plugs Z-Man was referring to. The plugs are in each corner. Gently push the plastic plug through into the engine compartment and feel around for the latch. Pushing on the latch will open the hood from the driver's side providing the cable between the 2 latches is intact.
