I think Goodyear may have some while lettered tires on their Eagle GT-II and Nascar edition lines. Pretty sure they make 16 inch since I was looking at them, but not sure about the aspect ratio.
Yes they have them but the aspect ratio is 65 and I find that more disturbing than blackwalls. Remember, theya re for the front and I certainly do not want big balloon tires up front.
With all the effort you're going through to improve your car's performance, it's a shame to put such junky tires on. I can't see any reason other than to brag about how wide they are.
They are just for the road, if I want to race it I will put one some slicks. I can't help it that there are no good 16" tires out there, it's just the reality and I have to live with it. What should I do, install the 10"or 9" rim halves and run smaller tires? What's the use, they are "junky" too, as you call it. Bragging has nothing to do with it, I happen to like deep dish wheels and I like wide flares, what I do not like are huge spacers or wheels that do not fill the wheel arch. Also, the tires are more than adequate for the allowed speed limits here and they do hold up at much higher speeds, 120+ is not a problem, have done it before. The same holds true for 15" wheels, what quality tire is there available for a 15"wheel? Don'ttell me you think the pirelli scorpion (which are suv/truck tires!!!) are a good performance tire, I hated them. I have run many pirellis on many different cars and they all wear like crazy on dry tarmac and have very poor grip in the wet.
What?? BFGs on an American car? Mon Dieu!! Might as well put some "Chinese tires" on it...
Clearly, a better choice than putting some foreign owned tire on there would be a Michelin, Bridgestone, Pirelli, Toyo, Kumho, etc. Oh wait, they're all foreign too.
BFGoodrich Radial T/A are great tires that look great on classic American cars. As long as you can get a set of Radial T/A's in 255/60/15, that will be what is on my car. Other people's opinion or not.
There are plenty of good 16" tires: Pilot Sports, Eagle GS-D3, Potenza S-03's, etc. They are many many tires between those I listed and a radial T/A. None of them are as wide, but the rubber compound and construction more than make up for it.
AFAIK, there are no good street tires for 15" wheels. I never implied that there were.

This coming from a guy with twin turbos, modified suspension geometry, and custom brakes . There's more to a tire than whether or not it will explode at the speeds you drive.

I'm not hell bent on these BFGs but if you know of a tire that will fit an 11" rim then by all means post it. As for the BFG, Cooper makes a tire in the same size, that however is a real junky tire.
I know there's more to a tire than wether it comes apart at high speeds, I have never had stability/deformation problems with the BFGs, the sidewalls were pretty stiff and they offered good grip, not the same league as michelins but they aren't as expensive also.
I REFUSE to run 17" or bigger wheels, I want my car to have a vintage look and not look like it has cart wheels on it. Not saying i don't like 17" wheels on vettes but it's just not for my car. The rear tires are not a problem, hoosier pro street radials are a good choice IMO.
I could also slap on a set of hard compound eagle rains (gatorbacks) that would be nice huh? I probably would get in trouble since they are not street legal but the cops never checked my tires before
TT I forgot to check on those tires but I am writing a note to myself to check. I am probably telling you something you already know but I hear a few know it all people telling you what to do. I have seen hundreds of BFGoodrich t/a's and never seen one come apart. The speed rating of the 295-50-16 you are looking for is SR this means the tire should be safe up to 180 Km/h or 112 MPH. For safetys sake I would think about going to a 17 inch wheel just so you could get a higher speed rating and it opens you up to many different brands and sizes. 275-40-17's are a great tire I run them on a 10 inch wheel on my 1959 Pontiac -- LOL it sees about 60 mph. I saw a beautiful 315-35-17 the other day. Uh oh I just called a tire beautiful, I might have a screw lose! But when I saw it I thought to myself "That is a bad A*S tire" That particular tire was rated ZR wich is 240 Km/h 149 MPH. And much more spendy than the 16 inchers. Well I just thought I would tell you something you probably have already looked into. Ok I will get ahold of you tomorrow and let you know about the 295/50/16's I have. you can give me a call if you like 530 518 1450
