These cars are meant to be modified-Duntov knew, even Bill Mitchell did. Have posted pictures before.
When GM left racing, Chevy sold Heavy Duty (hi performance & racing) parts.

There are atrocities when someone doesn't understand design/engineering of cars- Corvette summer, etc. ...

Preserving is fine. It is pretty funny when the sto*k guys incorrectly use "correct" when they mean original.
The best car shows have them all- modified, custom & sto*k, sorta like this forum.
Everyone is different so most have something they can contribute.

I never wanted any sto*k car. Sto*k is boring & for those who don't know how to modify.
All need more power & mods. Even L-88 needs exhaust mods to start w/...

With evidence like this, you can afford to rest.

Hey Iceman, don't hold back. Tell us how you REALLY feel! Don't be afraid, go ahead and let it out!

I call this arguement the Baskin Robbins arguement. Some like vanilla, some like strawberry, but they make 30 other flavors. Who am I to tell someone their flavor sucks?

Just my reluctant $.02 worth.

Do any of y'all recall a parody of a guy going through a restoration were he swept the roads the car had driven on and had the rubber remade into tires so they would be orginal? He sanded the paint and had the dust reformulated back in to paint. It went on and on with the wacky stuff inorder to stay orginal.

So, you got some ding-dongs that don't like you customizing
your vette ? I don't think you'll get much attitude in this forum.

I am an NCRS member. My vette ? I took a matching numbers 75
L48 that had body and frame rot, which I drove for several years.
Then, it came off the road for repairs ... ended up buying a
'70 frame and rear clip .... making a '73 out of them. I will never
see big bucks from selling this car, so I never will. It is my creation,
and I intend to keep it for life.

However, I would also (in the near future) like to find an un-molested
C3 to keep all original for investment purposes. Even a bone stock
75 L48 will be worth much-much more in 15 years.

So, to-each-his-own .... custom, stock, or both.

Good luck making yours your own.

This is one of those ongoiing threads and I have never quite figured it out. I am a car lover and appreciate all aspects. I love seeing a perfectly restored original car and appreciate all of the work and effort that goes into it. I also love a customized car as more of a piece of creativity and imagination.a Presently I have an all original '78 Pace Car, but I want my next project to be a one of not worrying about the originality and numbers matching, but doing what I want. I don't understand why each of these camps is always going at it on this issue. I love cars period, custom and original. I appreciate trucks, boats, motorcycles, etc. I just plain love motorsports and don't concern myself with all of this. Quite honestly my favorite projects are the ones that look almost original but have very skillful, tastefull updates. An example would be a '58 Vette with a C4 or C5 drivetrain and chassis underneath. Can't we all just get along?

This post is still going...

How 'bout this for an example of reckless abandon when it comes to customizing...

http://www.geocities.com/mtlmra/BPdriverprofile.html

...some fine examples of enjoying your ride your way ‘fer sure

Seriously, as other purist have stated, if I had not have started with a low mileage original car I might look to doing some custom work. Problem is, and this Forum has plenty of real life examples, once your start customizing it's hard to stop, substantial down time MAY be experienced. I respect that if that's your thing. For me, I want to drive my car and enjoy it as the General made it, flaws and all.

Ya'll go ahead and customize your ride. Hell, I hope more and more crossfire driver's pull the motor...just don't forget to list your parts on ebay ...but then my car wont be original anymore...or will it?
