Personally I really don't care about matching numbers, etc, blah, blah. Some guys do and thats good. Small mods to make the care personnalized to your taste is your choice and NO ONE has the right to fault you for it. The only problem I have is with guys that modify the body that's when the vette stops being a vette. For instance, I have a '82 and have thought if I every had to put a new engine in it I would definitely keep the fuel injection as well as the original air filter cover that's exclusive for '82. I see a lot of guys that ditch the fuel injection and install a crate engine or custom built and they look great, but to each his own. Think about it, all the major car manufacturers take ideas from the mods that are done to the cars after we personalize them, they have done a LOT of this, especially in the last 10 years.
I sort of agree, but not really. I plan on replacing a lot of the sheetmetal with fiberglass because its lighter, thats about it. The engine project I want to do requires a 5" induction hood. Im not going to go hardcore, but things like the airdam and pace car wing I think are comendable and still reach into the historical backgroud of the performance aspect of the Corvette
Curious - what sheetmetal are you replaceing? The bodies are fiberglass.
If I had to keep my car stock I wouldn't own it. To me a 75 corvette is gutless, has poor brakes, a dead suspension and is an embarrassment to be called a sports car.
This is my answer
Thanks for totally blasting my first corvette, a stock, red '75 coupe. I love the car and get lots of head turns. I'm somewhat mature, so I'm not really offended, just wanted to turn your wrench a little. I see you've been doing a lot of that with yours. Nice job. Is gas cheap in Canada?
I kept mine stock because one of the reasons I bought the car was that I liked the stock look I don't show my car, so although it's stock, it's far from NCRS material, and probably never will be. In other words, I like what I have and am not planning to change it anytime soon.
You can like what you like, and that's okay. If you post a picture of it, I will not bash it, it's what makes you happy. I would like to know what you mean by "bashing". One reason I like this forum so much is that there seems to be less of that here.
Check out my Avatar, that's as custom that some folks would think is ugly, but I think it looks kinda cool. But if someone on here posts a , I don't consider that "bashing". They are just posting their opinion, and they have the right to do that.
Sorry Kalaway but I was just telling it the way I see it. The 75 was about the worst horsepower year going. As a muscle car it was not up to the mustangs, the brakes are often in poor condition and the springs and suspension parts have gone flat years ago.
I paid my dues with this vet and rebuilt it from the ground up with 10's of thousands of dollars but it is getting to where I want it. Maybe in another few years along with another $10,000.
I had a 88 winter beater mustang that would run mid 14's all evening . A stock 75 wouldn't run that quick.
I have at least 2 years of extensive work in the suspension, years in the motor plus drive train so I basically have that sorted out.
As for gas my dodge 4x4 gets about 11 miles to the gallon with a stock 318. My vet got 14.4 on the last tank of gas around town with about 1/2 the mileage on the expressway.
Gas is expensive so I just sip it.
Sorry to have insulted your car. I didn't mean it personal
