Alright,

This is me going on a bit of a rant, so bear with me here.

Ive talked to the people at Bill Mitchell more Effing times than I care to talk about, and Ive been incredibly polite and understanding with them. What gets me, is that if I am willing to spend 10 grand on a slightly tuned down RACE motor, why wont they do it?? What is the possible rationale they have for NOT changing the compression ratio, cam and carb to ones that they already use in the normal series of crate motors? Its no EXTRA work, in fact its LESS because the parts Im asking for are used MORE by Bill Mitchell than the ones that normally come on the race engine.

Im very unimpressed with the level of service this supposedly "high class" engine shop is willing to provide. They are, in fact, an assembly line with little room for customizing GOD FORBID the world collapse around their heels.

Anyhow, if anyone else out there could tell me where I can have a 427SBC built that'll make over 530 horses and rev to 7 grand...tell me...because these guys dont deserve my effing money.

Call Dyno-flo!!!

You have nothing to lose and may learn a lot, even if you don't go with one of their engines!!

It's worth a 20 minute call!!!

There's a forum member that used to have a 600 HP 406 engine. His forum name is Teenagerwith74Vette. His engine was built by Chickenbone of C&S Racing somewhere in Luisiana... Check his profile and e-mail him...
I actually took his engine specs and asked AR to build a almost identical engine... I can't say anything about the engine that's being built because I don't have it yet.. Considering that I told them exactly what parts I want on the engine, I can't imaging that anything could go wrong.. At least I hope so...

Check with Shafiroff. I bought their ultra-street 434 SBC for a friend overseas. He's been running it now for about a year and loves it.

Sure the feeling was mutual.

Like you said they are a mass producer except for people who can advertise for them so he has no incentive to custom build one for Joe Blow.

Evan-
Most large engine shops , such as the one you are talking about ; do not stray from the combinations that they have developed. They do not want to take the risk of you being disatisfied when the custom combination you asked for might turn out to be a non-performer. Then it's a lose lose senairo.
The cookie cutter method is the most profitable way to build the semi-custom engines. A truly custom engine is not the difference in parts cost , as much as the time on the phone with the customer and the time acquiring the right parts.
I suggest seeking a shop close to you that specializes in what you are looking for and you can comunicate face to face.

Well - I already ordered my engine from AR so I won't buy that one anyway.. If the car really 9.90 - then the engien won't be pump gas compatible for sure..

thanks for the suggestions guys,

I had to leave for a while and clear my head about this whole car business....

What Ive decided to do at this time, is NOTHING.

Its not a money issue, its a logistics issue. I just put my car away for the Winter (Kingston has **** weather from the 1st of October onward) and I cant work on it, as its in storage a good 30 miles away from my campus.

Im still going to work on finding an engine manufacturer that I can trust to build me a super small block. Ive already got most of what I want in the engine figured out, all the components from the radiatior straight to the driveshaft, and now its just a matter of figuring things out and clearing my head a bit.

Thanks again guys, I must say this first engine fiasco with a Super small block is a bit discouraging, but having built a couple cars, Its by no means the end for me. Keep suggestions on engine manufacturers and new technology coming though!!!

Thanks all.

YOu are in Ontario ? Get an engine built in Ontario, like 1bad69 says call Active Engines in Mississauga the have been building racing and otherwise engines for 30 years. They build the motors for Dream Car Garage ( is that show still on the air ?) I have known the owners for longer than that and will introduce you to them if you want email me when your ready to build a motor.

This kinda pisses me off because "Joe Blow" doesnt drop 10 grand on an engine, only fairly hardcore street/strip racers and enthusiasts are going to do that. Youd think for pure entertaiment and for keeping the enthusiast ENTHUSED theyd have a little breathing room...especially it being a small manufacturer. Also, I was VERY VERY courteous with them and never did anything, or said anything to agrivate the situation so I take offense to the insinuation that I did.
